Test the sensor eyes by connecting them to short wires directly at the motor unit. You push the button to close the garage door. This is almost always the result of a dirty or obstructed safety feature. It goes partway down reverses direction and goes back up again.

A garage door that keeps reversing when you attempt to close it with the opener might have a simple problem or a major issue that requires a service professional. The photo eyes send an infrared beam across the bottom of your garage door opening if that beam is broken the door will reverse. If the door reverses part way down and you are sure there is no obstruction or binding increase the closing force a small amount and try it again. Clean and adjust the photoelectric eye which also reverses the garage door.

Photo eyes or safety sensors are mounted to the track on either side of the garage door about 6 inches up from the ground. Make sure the eye is aligned with the reflector at the opposite side or else the door won t close properly. If the door doesn t close and the lights don t blink replace the safety sensors.
