Over the years the garage door header has sagged du. If any portion of your garage door header has rotted or softened due to water exposure you need in replace the entire header. Lay one board on the garage floor to act as a sill plate. Door jambs are susceptible to wood rot due to their exposure to ground level moisture.

The jambs are vertical boards that form the side parts of the frame around a garage door. Tap on the back of it with a hammer to drive the tip in as far as you can. Take down any trim or any external pieces of wood which are not part of the garage door header. Insert the tip of a flat crowbar under the trim.

Use a hammer to tap the 2x6 to a vertical position where it ll raise the header and release the downward pressure on the rotted post. Support the ceiling of the garage using some lumber. Some garage doors are. You can t replace a 16 chunk of it and retain any structural integrity.

The best way to fix this problem is to replace the header. Pry on the crowbar to lift the trim and loosen it. Stand the other 2x6 on top of the sill plate and slip its upper end underneath the header that spans the garage door opening.
