The flame lifts away from the thermocouple and causes the temperature on the tip of the thermocouple to drop. This in turn makes the gas valve shut off.

This condensation will dissipate within a few minutes as the firebox heats up and the flames turn yellow. When i remove the logs it operates longer for about two hours before it shuts down. Once you are done with that you need to put the key back into the keyhole if you want to adjust.
